We were parked out by the launch pad It was midnight We were talking in the cold Telling secrets under starlight With the blue light of the cop cars Getting close We were climbing through the branches Of a tree when time went missing We were mapping avalanches and Collapsing solar systems Lying on the hood of your car We thought we could fly To the planets and stars It was stunning Lying on the hood of your car A scaffold of lights A world that was ours The engine running Lying on the hood of your car You said this town’s too small to dream in But if we never leave We’ll never know I said “there’s nothing here for me and You’re the pilot I believe in Time to go” Nowhere but we made it so far Lying on the hood of your car We thought we could fly To the planets and stars It was stunning Lying on the hood of your car A scaffold lights A world that was ours The engine running Lying on the hood of your car With our backs against the windshield And our hearts beating like thunder We lay separate but connected By the spell that we were under Lying on the hood of your car On the hood of your car Lying on the hood of your call We thought we could fly To the planets and stars It was stunning Lying on the hood of your car A scaffold of lights A world that was ours The engine running Lying on the hood of your car

Skywriting 02:59
Slingshot days are gone Time’s a thief, but you’re still young Gut punch, mountain climb Fell in love when you lost your mind Long night, broke machine Tangled tape and tangled dreams Echo bedroom wall Can anyone hear my voice at all? I feel I’m disappearing in the clouds I wanna risk it all I’m not afraid to fly or fall down trying If nothing lasts that long I wanna spend my days and my nights and my whole life Skywriting Skywriting Slow dive tidal wave Broke my heart your secret’s safe Shot down silhouette Shadow hasn’t left me yet Forgiveness isn’t given if you don’t feel some regret I feel I'm disappearing in the clouds I wanna risk it all I’m not afraid to fly or fall down trying If nothing lasts that long I wanna spend my days and my nights and my whole life Skywriting Skywriting I wanna ride under the three quarter moon with you We can’t wait any longer Forever’s never too soon I wanna risk it all I’m not afraid to fly or fall down trying If nothing lasts that long I wanna spend my days and my nights and my whole life Skywriting Skywriting

Stars 04:30
We were holed up in the corner of a cowboy bar When you asked me to dance I couldn’t answer But I met you on the floor and we left in a fight In the cab back home All I could think about was second chances And we have skirted lines and endings We have flirted with disaster Your were there in the beginning I’ll be there for what comes after The stars that fell for you Left holes in my roof The stars that fell for you They fell for you and I’m falling too I was looking for a lighter in a bedside drawer Found a picture and a pack of matches From another lifetime Ya I’m missing the parade but I’m done with the war There’s a hole in this sweater You told me that you’re gonna patch up And we have skirted fires and flood planes We have flirted with disaster I was there in the beginning When you were swinging from the rafters The stars that fell for you Left holes in my roof The stars that fell for you They fell for you and I’m falling too A world without color is a world without you The stars that fell for you Left holes in my roof The stars that fell for you They fell for you and I’m falling too

Submarine 03:21
Swimming through midtown There were cars in the trees Boats in the bowery Trains in the sea Sharks on the sidewalk Coming for me I’m missing you now But I’m learning to breathe Without you Without you Zombies on Broadway It rained underground Alphabet city And you’re not around The bus stop in Brooklyn Where I’m freaking out You’re the ghost in the room Where I’m living now Without you Without you It’s like the world is underwater with the lights out With the lights out It’s like I’m living, like I’m living in a submarine Submarine And I’m in too deep Sand on the staircase Holes in my jeans I rode an umbrella From Harlem to Queens When up in The Arcade The astronaut hides Everything’s changing Guess I’ve gotta try Without you Without you It’s like the world is underwater with the lights out With the lights out It’s like I’m living, like I’m living in a submarine Submarine And I’m in too deep It’s like the world is underwater with the lights out With the lights out It’s like I’m living, like I’m living in a submarine Submarine And I’m in too deep I’m in too deep Bedford and 6th Street Scarlet and gray The colors of morning The bruise that won’t fade Without you It’s like the world is underwater with the lights out With the lights out It’s like I’m living, like I’m living in a submarine Submarine And I’m in too deep It’s like the world is underwater with the lights out With the lights out It’s like I’m living, like I’m living in a submarine Submarine And I’m in too deep Submarine I’m in too deep

I don’t wanna do this anymore Don’t think that I can live like this forever Sleepless nights on the engine roar Just to wake up in a fight Maybe when we’re brave We’ll cut the cord I’ll move south to Argentina Chase around some ballerina And you’ll marry a man who treats you right The more I think it’s less like courage To run when hopeless days will pass You’re still everything I wanted We were built to last I saw you there on the mezzanine Freckled cheeks all wisdom teeth And dimples Crater ends to downturned lip Landing lights till those latchkey kid’s come home We were so much younger then Sometimes I miss the innocence Of summer I see the way you look at me And wonder if the thoughts you read are mine Saying I don’t wanna do this anymore Don’t think that I can live like this forever Sleepless nights on the engine roar Just to wake up in a fight Maybe when we’re brave We’ll cut the cord, yeah I’ll move south to Argentina Chase around some ballerina You’ll marry a man who treats you right The more I think it’s less like courage To run when hopeless days will pass You’re still everything I wanted We were built to last You’re still everything I wanted We were built to last

New Friends 03:27
You were taking the train up to Portland ‘Cause you said you hate flying alone I was writing your name out in surf wax On a washing machine at the fluff 'n fold So I made up your bed in the guest room Hoping you’d come back and stay And I let in the light Bouncing off of your bike Collecting dust in the driveway I don’t wanna lose you again I don’t wanna have to make new friends But I just can’t seem to get my shit together I don’t wanna waste my time Looking for a new partner in crime Can we start over again? I don’t wanna make new friends I wish I could listen to metal And all of your favorite bands But I promise I will try to pay all the bills And water all of your house plants I don’t wanna lose you again I don’t wanna have to make new friends But I just can’t seem to get my shit together I don’t wanna waste my time Looking for a new partner in crime Can we start over again? I don’t wanna make new friends I used to think that I would be alone forever I start to wonder as you slip away I don’t wanna lose you again I don’t wanna have to make new friends But I just can’t seem to get my shit together I don’t wanna waste my time Looking for a new partner in crime Can we start over again? I don’t wanna make new friends Can we start over again? I don’t wanna make new friends

Stuck on the highway, eleven AM I am driving through LA in traffic again I thought I was a writer but lately I feel like a hack They called me a hero But I was a sinner I drank before lunch And I took drugs with dinner Then burned every bridge that I crossed On the long journey back Oh, I won’t lie When I was young and high Crossing the distance flying Got me there faster You can stare at the runway lights Dreaming of days in flight But don’t you go crashland twice You little disaster I passed the apartment at Sunset and Vine Where I lived with my friends And we smoked ourselves blind It’s crazy how time can turn chaos and crime into magic Today I’ll make music Drive home to the beach Kiss my daughter goodnight As she’s falling asleep I live with this hunger But everything I need I have it Oh, I won’t lie When I was young and high Crossing the distance flying Got me there faster You can stare at the runway lights Dreaming of days in flight But don’t you go crashland twice You little disaster I was tilting at the wind I was running in circles So hard catching your breath If you never slow down Oh, I won’t lie When I was young and high Crossing the distance flying Got me there faster You can stare at the runway lights Dreaming of days in flight But don’t you go crashland twice You little disaster Stuck on the highway, eleven AM I am driving through LA in traffic again It’s crazy how time can turn chaos and crime into magic

Last Rites 03:12
(All right, are we in?) I wanna take you out I wanna take you on I wanna drive this car Until the stars are gone I wanna hear your voice On that country wind Fill up my lungs with fire and leather Your salt water and skin I don’t know where we end and time begins I knew you in a past life I think that we traveled together In another century Don’t bother with our last rites You waste your breath We’ll live forever You plus time plus me Infinity I’m not afraid to live I’m not afraid to die Every hand you hold One day will wave goodbye But you and me we roar Down a separate track And when my body does release me For you I will be back Climbing through that cosmic zodiac I knew you in a past life I think that we traveled together In another century Don’t bother with our last rites You waste your breath We’ll live forever You plus time plus me Infinity I knew you in a past life I think that we traveled together In another century Don’t bother with our last rites You waste your breath We’ll live forever You plus time plus me Infinity Infinity Don’t bother with our last rites You waste your breath We’ll live forever You plus time plus me Infinity Infinity You plus time plus me Infinity

VHS 03:11
It’s the sound the night makes when you can’t fall asleep It’s the things that you see in your mind before dreaming The streets and the alleys where you played as a kid It’s the days you didn’t listen A film with frames missing VHS videotape repeating Repeating Capsized Coming up for air in your green eyes In between the dream and the moonlight You’re the one to keep Keep me in the bright now Truth hides Underneath the water where the time slides I don’t need to dream The past is history Future’s a mystery You’re the one to keep Keep me in the bright now It’s the days like a razor that you learn to forgive It’s the nights with no danger when you finally believe that Where you came from doesn’t have to be where you live It was harder before You taught me to ignore That VHS videotape repeating Capsized Coming up for air in your green eyes In between the dream and the moonlight You’re the one to keep Keep me in the bright now Truth hides Underneath the water where the time slides I don’t need to dream The past is history Future’s a mystery You’re the one to keep Keep me in the bright now With you I don’t have to be Living in a memory With you I don’t have to be Living in a memory Capsized Coming up for air in your green eyes In between the dream and the moonlight You’re the one to keep Keep me in the bright now Truth hides Underneath the water where the time slides I don’t need to dream The past is history Future’s a mystery You’re the one to keep Keep me in the bright now (With you I don’t have to be Living in a memory) Keep me in the bright now (With you I don’t have to be Living in a memory) Keep me in the bright now (With you I don’t have to be Living in a memory)

The clouds hung over Georgia Like a widowed brand new bride The air was cursed with spring in bloom So you just stayed inside When you ran here from New Jersey You were no more than a child Your father was a criminal He stole your mother’s smile The things nobody tells you when you’re young That the day’s can leave you wanting And that the past can be a haunted house of mirrors Nobody tells you when you’re young That the cops cannot be trusted That some hearts like cars just rust out in the rain for years Nobody tells you when you’re young And Athens was a ghost town When they rang your wedding bells And you moved into that little house Outside of Wintersville And those first years, they were perfect Yeah, you had a little girl Everything they never gave to you You swore you’d give to her The things nobody tells you when you’re young That love is complicated And that some days you’ll think You’ve made it just to lose Nobody tells you when you’re young That time is not a straight track It’s a forest with no map You’re walking with no shoes Nobody tells you when you’re young Now you’re a little older And you feigned captivity No, they never boxed you in But it’s still hard to believe The things nobody tells you when you’re young How some friends will become strangers And that there is no greater Danger than to live in fear Nobody tells you when you’re young ‘Cause a rebel heart won’t listen But to grow you must go missing Just don’t disappear The wisdom’s in the living Not the years Nobody tells you when you’re young

I felt the summer on my hand Through the window I think I knew it right then I would never let you go And everything we lost And everything we won Find your street of gold And drive it when you’re young Everything we break Every breath in my lungs Hey now, we’ll go on living After all the smoke and ribbons Can’t fight the time It’s marching on And hey now, it’s all forgiven Good luck and bad decisions I’ll write the words if you sing along If you sing along I can feel you in my heart Like an ocean I let you drive my car I’m never looking back again And everything I have No I would never need As long as you are here As long as you can see That even when I’m hiding Yeah I still believe That hey now, we’ll go on living After all the smoke and ribbons Can’t fight the time It’s marching on Hey now, it’s all forgiven Good luck and bad decisions I’ll write the words if you sing along If you sing along I can feel you in my heart Like an ocean I can feel you in my heart Like a wave Hey now, we’ll go on living After all the smoke and ribbons Can’t fight the time It’s marching on Hey now, it’s all forgiven Good luck and bad decisions I’ll write the words if you sing along If you sing along With the windows down We watch the road erased With the windows down We watch the road erased With the windows down We watch the road erased With the windows down And hey now, we’ll go on living After all the smoke and ribbons Can’t fight the time It’s marching on

about

Accomplished singer-songwriter Andrew McMahon continues his solo work for his project Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness with the introspective album ’Tilt At The Wind No More’, teaming up with trusted collaborators and producers Tommy English (K.Flay, X Ambassadors) & Jeremy Hatcher (Harry Styles, Shawn Mendes) on the album.

The 11-song record represents a reflection of everything Andrew has learned during his music career and throughout his life so far. Though it is steeped in nostalgia and optimism for the future, above all else, Andrew wanted to make ‘Tilt At The Wind No More’ sound "transportive." “I wanted people to be able to put on their headphones and hear a universe in these songs,” he says. “I think we pushed hard to make this music really adventurous. We took the singer-songwriter medium and said, ‘Let's dig deep and make it sound really fun and out there and wrap people up in these arrangements. It's one of the things I'm most proud of: the way it sounds.”
